LogSleuth is a computer program to manage, modify, display and print well log images purchased from MJ Systems. M.J. Systems raster image well logs and LogSleuth software bring a functionality and efficiency to the examination of logs never before available, at a price that is competitive with fiche, and a fraction of the cost of vectors.
Technical information
LogSleuth runs under Windows NT/XP/ME and 2000/2003 operating systems. LogSleuth can operate in a standalone or networked environment.
Interaction with other systems
We are working hard to ensure LogSleuth works with all other geological systems such as data sources, mapping packages, cross-section building and log analysis packages. We have an interface with products like GeoScout, GeoVista, DigiRule, MSI-Capture, Petra and Neurolog enabling MJ Logs to be utilized in these products. We have provided the ability to import well data from sources such as PI/Dwights (now IHS Energy), Geographix, GeoScout, GeoVista, Petra and Accumap. Formation tops modified in LogSleuth can then be exported back out. You can export portions or entire log images for use in graphical applications such as Corel Draw, Micrographix Designer or NeuraSection cross-section building software.
If you know of a program that we do not support but should, please contact our support group with the details. Every effort will be made to create an interface.
Program Features / Highlights
LogSleuth Version 2.10
MJ Systems is pleased to offer online (ftp) access to all well log purchases and updates. The new retrieval features within LogSleuth make it possible to download logs quickly and easily, with automatic loading of the well data (.ls4) files and no userid or passwords to worry about. Clients may also schedule automatic downloading of log updates during off peak hours.
It will now be possible to request the download of just those registrations that have been added or modified since the last time the client performed an update. Since the announcement that MJ Systems now has registered logs for all wells in Canada, our focus has changed to registering additional log types and enhancing existing registrations. This new registration download mechanism is intended to keep our clients current with the latest updates. It is even possible to schedule the registration update procedure for off peak hours.
This feature allows LogSleuth to query the MJ master log library via the Internet. Clients can determine whether a given well exists in the library, if and when it was released, and what logs are available. For Canadian wells, identified by a UWI and License# that cannot be located in the master log library, there is a research request feature within LogSleuth. In response to such a request, MJ staff will locate the well, determine why it is not in the library, add it if possible, and generate a response, usually within one business day.
LogSleuth allows clients to notify MJ of registration issues with a single mouse click. Upon receiving the notification, MJ will attempt to correct the problem within 1 business day. Of course, clients will still be able to correct or add registrations themselves, if they so choose.
Textual annotations may be displayed and printed on the log or printed at the bottom of the log with depth indicators. The colors brown and orange have been added to the available color palette. The perforation symbol is perforated, once again.
LogSleuth requires each client to authenticate the first time they run version 2.10. Authentication is simply entering your name and company name. If LogSleuth is not authenticated, LogSleuth is restricted from printing and exporting logs. If the user already authenticated in a prior version they do not need to authenticate again.
LogSleuth 2.10 makes structural changes to its database and as such versions of LogSleuth, less than 2.10, can no longer access the database. This means that an upgrade of LogSleuth at a company with multiple seats should plan to upgrade at the same time.
LogSleuth Version 2.9
New log print and export routines produce “TRUE GRID” Logs. Utilizing the extensive data recorded by the LogSleuth registration process, LogSleuth produces logs that have been straightened and corrected for scale across the full length of registered depth intervals. This process reduces the common problem of correlating log intervals that have suffered stretch or compression during the original recording or during the scanning procedure. In addition to offering the most complete library, with the most current updates, MJ Systems can now boast the best quality logs on the market.
Automatic Project Creation when loading wells into LogSleuth. Update subscriptions are loaded into their own folder, and each update includes the date it was released by MJ as well as the date it was loaded into the client system. This makes it easy to see which wells have been updated and to ensure that all updates are being loaded in a timely manner. Clients purchasing logs in new areas also have projects automatically created, allowing them to start working with the new logs immediately.
Although LogSleuth allows a great deal of flexibility in importing annotations to appear on the well log (DST recoveries, production data etc), the text often made it difficult to see the underlying log curves and could overpost itself. This version of LogSleuth has replaced this text with a small annotation marker that does not obscure the underlying log. When the mouse is moved over the marker, the full text is displayed in a hint window, which disappears when the mouse leaves the marker. The text markers do not appear when printing or exporting log images, but an option is provided to include the text annotations in a box that appears at the bottom of the log.
Added Petra Data Import option. This feature allows well data exported from the popular Petra software to be imported directly into LogSleuth for display on the log images.* Improved Caliper functionality. Gross and net caliper tools can now be accessed by right clicking on a log image, regardless of whether the annotations window is open. If the annotations window is not open, caliper values are automatically recorded to the Windows clipboard. If the annotations/tops window is displayed, caliper values are recorded in the LogSleuth database. Also, when selecting an interval, the full width of the log is highlighted, making it easier to relate to curves across the full log.
* Added Depth Registration ASCII export format. This is a new registration export format that works with Geographix exploration tools.
* Changes to the image processing library offer improved speed and reliability.
* Minor changes to the LogSleuth COM interface allows programs that work directly with LogSleuth to support the new features and work more reliably.
LogSleuth
Version 2.8 LogSleuth now compresses much of the data stored in its database, reducing database disk requirements by as much as 70%. This change has also lead to better performance and increased reliability for users of the standard LogSleuth database. The depth registration process has been fine-tuned to offer even better accuracy than before. The registration of Log Headers has been substantially improved, making it virtually automatic for most log images. When printing or exporting log intervals, you now have the option of including the log headers on your output. You may now order wells from MJ Systems for the state of West Virginia. *Log Printing - Ability to specify separate fonts for page title and log headings.
* Screen Navigation – Buttons for the three main screens are always on the toolbar with the current screen button depressed.
* Folders Tree, Project List screen – Expand all, Collapse all, as right mouse click popup menus.
* Project Well-Log List Export – New export file on the Well List screen. File | Export Well-Log List.
LogSleuth
Version 2.7 MJ Systems has made its library of Canadian Log Registrations available at
no charge to LogSleuth Users. We are also encouraging LogSleuth users to
contribute their registrations to the exchange program. To support this,
LogSleuth has the ability to access the Registrations library via the
Internet. With a single click you can load registrations for your library,
project or individual wells. All registrations in the library, whether
from MJ Systems or contributed by LogSleuth users, have passed automated
validation testing to ensure quality. LogSleuth will automatically test registrations as you register log images.
Simple problems are automatically fixed while involved problems are brought
to the attention of the user for correction. Corporate LogSleuth administrators now have the ability to restrict access
to key functions within LogSleuth. LogSleuth has gained the ability to automatically search for logs that are
added to the system, without the need to catalog each volume as it arrives. When placing orders with MJ Systems for small quantities of well logs
(usually 25 wells or less), LogSleuth users can now download those logs
directly into their LogSleuth database all from within LogSleuth. *Registering Logs - The registration process has been improved. If you
end
* When you flag a project formation as not visible, the formation will no
longer be displayed on the well logs for that project.
* For programs that interface with LogSleuth, we have introduced a new
data import function, new ability to export header documents and bug
fixes to some other operations.
LogSleuth
Version 2.0 The focus of version 2.0 is to provide support for users that wish to subscribe
to MJ Systems log update service. The update also provides valuable ease of use and
functional improvements. Specifically: This version of the program will require previous versions of LogSleuth database
structures to be updated, a process performed by the installation program. Version
2.0 is
backwards compatible with existing project (.lsp) and well (.ls2) files.
an existing interval, the continuation depth is updated to reflect the
new endpoint. LogSleuth automatically goes into continuation mode after
each depth interval (alleviating need to press continue next interval
button). Extrapolate point. There are hot keys to go to the top or
bottom of an interval. A registration scale can be changed without redoing
the registration.
Updates to LogSleuth can be downloaded from this website.
